The present investigation entitled “Genetic Analysis of Yield and Quality Components in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)” was conducted with a view of generating information on diversity, hybrid vigour, combining ability and genetic parameters in tomato. The experiment was conducted at the Vegetable Research Farm of Banaras Hindu University during Rainy season,2013, Winter season, 2013 and Rainy season,2014. The experimental material for this study comprised of the genotypes H-86, Kashi Amrit, Kashi Sharad, Floradade, Punjab Upma, Punjab Chhauhara, H-24, Pant-T3, Sel-7, BT-120, CO-3 (Marutham), Fla 7171, H-88-78-4, Hissar Lalima, Ageta-32, Avinash-2-2-1, DT-2, Angoor Lata, Azad-T5 and NDTVR-60.
Based on genetic diversity study, it was observed that the characters fruit weight, plant height, fruit yield, number of fruits/plant, number of flower clusters/plant and number of primary branches/plant contributed maximum to the diversity of the diversity of 20 tomato genot may be exploiting for developing hybrid tomato varieties are Fla 7171 × Sel-7, Kashi Amrit × Sel-7, Kashi Amrit × Kashi Sharad and CO-3 × Azad T-5. Based on specific combining ability best heterotic combinations were Punjab Upma × Azad T-5, Fla 7171 × Sel-7 and CO-3 × Azad T-5 for most of yield and quality traits. High heritability (>60%) combined with high genetic advance (>20%) was observed for shelf life, fruit yield, lycopene, number of primary branches/plant, plant height, number of flower clusters/plant, number of flowers/cluster, fruit weight, TSS, number of fruits/cluster, number of fruits/plant which indicates that these traits can be improved by simple selection.
