Description |
The present set of experiment was carried out in the Central farm ,OUAT, Bhubaneswar during Rabi 2014-15.with five treatment such as control(without weeding), Butachlor, Alachlor, Oxyflurofen as pre-emergence herbicides and weed free (manual weeding) having three replication under RBD design to study the “Effect of herbicide on root nodulation, rhizospheric microflora population, plant growth metabolism and yield performance of groundnut”. Germination counts were taken from 13th day from the date of sowing under field condition. It was revealed from the data that germination percentage (GP) was reduced to a tune of 6.25 % to 31.25% in the pre-emergence herbicide applied plots as compared to weed free plot(manual weeding). The morphological character such as plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf area and total biomass accumulation was recorded highest in all stages of growth by weed free plots followed by Butachlor treatred plots among the treatments. These parameters increased up to 60 DAS and further declined upto harvest as compared to former. The growth parameters such as LAI,RGR,NAR,LAR and CGR increased in response to herbicide application over the control. Among the treatment highest value of these parameter was recorded by weed free plot followed by Butachlor. The growth parameter such as LAI,RGR,NAR, CGR are highly positively correlated with pod yield of groundnut. Weed free plot exhibit highest chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and total chlorophyll content in all stages of growth followed by Butachlor and it is highly positively correlated with yield and yield attributing characters. Application of pre-emergence herbicide affected the microflora population specially bacterial and fungal population .The bacterial population was found to be highest ( 9x10 5 cfu/g )in weed free where on fungal population was highest( 7x10 3 cfu/g) in control treatment. The enzymatic activity such as SOD, catalase and peroxide was highly influenced by the application of herbicides. The highest number of nodules was exhibited by weed free plots Followed by Butachlor in all stages of growth. similar trend was found on regards to number of effective nodules per plant .the yield attributing characters such as number of pods per plant, test weight of pods, kernel weight and harvesting index significantly increased in weed free treatments followed by Butachlor among all the treatments. Highest yield was contributed by weed free treatment ( 13.92 q/ha) followed by Butachlor( 13.17 q/ha ) which increased to the tune of 26.54% and 19.72% respectively over control. Besides this harvesting oil and oil percentage content was noted highest in weed free plot ( 6.86q/ha and 49.33 % ) followed by Butachlor ( 6.16q/ha and 46.78 % ). In view of present findings it can be concluded that beside weed free treatment application of pre mergence herbicides increased the yield and oil content of crop significantly over the control. |
