Description |
The present study was undertaken to estimate the Genetic divergence and phenotypic sability analysis in upland Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). The material for the present investigation comprised of 68 genotypes of G. hirsutum from different origin. All these genotypes were grown at two locations viz., Hisar and Sirsa during Kharif 2011 and 2012 in a randomized block design with three replications. The present investigation was done on assessment of variability, association analysis, path analysis, assessment of genetic diversity and stability analysis. Genetic variability revealed t h a t seed cotton yield per plant provided high estimates of genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation coupled with high heritability and expected genetic gain as a percent of ean, which provides better scope for improvement through direct selection. Association analysis revealed high positive significant correlation of seed cotton yield/plant with plant height, number of bolls/plant, number of monopods, boll weight, seed index, lint index, 2.5% span length and bundle strength. Path analysis revealed high positive and direct effect of number of bolls/ plant, boll weight, 2.5% span length and uniformity ratio on seed cotton yield. All the 68 genotypes were grouped into 8 clusters containing 1 to 55 genotypes and for fibre quality traits 68 genotypes grouped into 6 cluster containing 1 to 47 genotypes. The joint regression analysis indicated that both linear and non-linear component contributed to total G x E interaction for all the characters. Out of 68 genotypes none was found suitable for all the characters studied. For seed cotton yield only the genotypes CPD 1001 was found desirable with high mean, non significant S2 di values and bi < 1 values indicating their adaptability to unfavourable environmental conditions. The genotype H 1442, possessing high mean value, average stability and non significant for S2 di value indicating that it is well adapted to all environmental condition. The genotypes GTHV 07/1, H 1451, H 1422 and PRT/09-8 possessing high mean value, bi > 1 values and non significant for S2 di value indicated that thes are specific adapted to unfavourable environmental conditions. |
