Description M. Sc. (Ag.)
The present investigation entitled "Seasonal incidence and efficacy of some newer insecticides for the management of brinjal shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)” was carried out to study the incidence of the pest during Kharif season and also to study the efficacy of some pesticides against L. orbonalis. In Varanasi region of the Indo-Gangetic belt the peak incidence of L. orbonalis on brinjal was observed during mid-October to 1st week of November month. Abiotic factors showed the non- significant positive correlation with maximum temperature and Sunshine hours. The evening and average relative humidity showed negative but significant correlation to the per cent shoot infestation by brinjal shoot and fruit borer. Insecticides such as Indoxacarb, Emamectin benzoate, spinosad lambda cyhalothrin with their recommended dose of application shows good management by reducing the per cent shoot infestation and can be used in the IPM practices to combat L. orbonalis menace. Novaluron on the other hand even after showing good efficiency in managing the pest is not economical as the ICBR is quite low. Botanicals like Azadirachtin alone do not provide effective control, rather it can be applied in combination with other insecticides and can be efficiently used under IPM.
