Description Field studies on influence of new seed dressing chemicals on the insect
pest complex, plant phenology and physiology, were carried out during rabi
2008 at S.V. Agricultural College, Tirupati.
Two test crops viz; greengram and cowpea were included in the field
evaluation of seed dressing chemicals. The crops were sown during December,
2008 to assess the influence of seed dressing chemicals in the suppression of
early season insect pests in greengram and cowpea. Thiamethoxam @4.3 g/kg
and 8.6 g/kg was highly effective against aphids, thrips and leaf hoppers upto
30 days after germination in both greengram and cowpea crops. The leaf
damage was low in Thiamethoxam, Imidacloprid and Acetamiprid treatments.
Low plant stand was recorded in Clothionidon @ 6 g and 12 g/kg treatments.
The pod damage was less in the plots treated with Thiamethoxam @ 8.6 g/kg,
Imidacloprid @10 ml/kg, and Acetamiprid @ 30 g/kg seed dressing chemicals
in both the crops.
The germination of seeds was not affected in case of greengram with the
seed dressings of Thiamethoxam, Imidacloprid, Acetamiprid, and Carbosulfan.
While germination in greengram was adversely affected with Clothionidon.
Biomass production was high in Thiamethoxam @ 4.3 g/kg, Imidacloprid
@ 5 ml/kg, Acetamiprid @ 30 g/kg and Carbosulfan @ 30 ml/kg at 45 DAG in
both the crops. The maximum vigour index was, recorded in carbosulfan
@ 30 ml /kg treatment in greengram and cowpea. The highest SPAD readings
and leaf chlorophyll were recorded in the test crops in Acetamiprid @ 30 g/kg,
Imidacloprid @ 10 ml/kg treatments.
