Description |
Long tenn field investigation oh the effect of manure and fertilizers on soil fertility and product~vity of rainfed groundnut in red sandy loam soil (HaplustalE) was started during kharif, 1981 and continued at Regional Agricultural Research · Station, Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University. Te.n treatments involving N, P, K and gypsun individually ~nd also in different combinations of. the same with lime ~nd zinc sulphate apart fran control \f.ere imposed in four replications following the randamized block design. Soil samples collected at G-15 and 15-30 em depth initially and after fifth and tenth year of experimentation were studied for different parameters. Pod yield and yield attributing factors were assessed along with the plant nutrient concentration and uptake for the tenth year of cropping. Pod yield increased significantly with farmyard manure, NP and other combinations of N, P, K, gyp~Hlm, lim~.~ and zinc sulphate which ware at par. No additional response was realised with potassium, gypsum, lime and zinc sulphate.RwJc:lrclinq uuil Eact.nrH, r.ont:inunu .. rnr~nurin'l and fer.t-. .1- lization for ten years did not ~hange eith~r pH, ~C or organ~c carbon. Available N increased in the treatment~::J with FYM and in others which received N. overall depletion of available P was noticed over ten years with less depletion in the treatments which received P. Statistically, there was no change in water soluble and non-exchangeable K. In general, the exchangeable and available l< status of soil were significantly higher in the treatments · which received potassium at surfar.e l~yer. However, significant depletion of available K content was observed over years of experimentation. No definite trend was obr-;erved in the contents .of exch. Ca and Mg o.ver years of cropping. Available s content" pro;;1ressively increased with the application of single superphosphate, gypsum and zinc sulphate. Application of lime has not incrt3asud the froe limo C"!ontont. of thE~ nnil whereas depletion of available zinc was observed in the treatments not received zinc but ito increase was -noted on application.Investigat.i on of plant materia 1 for nutrient comentration and uptake revealed, significant increase in the content and uptake c£ P, K, Ca and s and in the- uptake of N, Mg and zn was observed in FYM, NP and the other combinations of N, P, K, . . gypsum, lime and zinc sulphate treatments which were at par and found to agree with the pod yields. Among the nutrient ratios stu:iied w index leaf, the ratio of N/PS w the range of 8.57 to 9.07 observed to be more favourable for higher yields. The ten years study envisaged that there was no negative effect qf either ma~ure or fertilizer use under ~oisture stress on the yield of rainfed groundnut· in red sandy learns. |
