ABSTRACT The present study “An analysis of market share and market potential of hybrid vegetable seeds in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh” India is the second largest producer of vegetables in the world next to china with an estimate production of about 129.07 million tonnes from an area of 8.4 million hectares at an average yield of 15.3 tonnes per hectare India share about 15% of the world output of vegetables from about 3.0%of cropped area in the country. So keeping in the mind position of vegetable seed in the market, the research titles “an analysis of market share and market potential of hybrid vegetable seed in Jabalpur district with special reference to the Nuziveedu Seeds Pvt. Ltd. “was assigned to me. The present study was undertaken with specific objectives as follows: Objectives • To identify major vegetables crops grown in the selected area and find existing players of the market and estimate their market share. • To know farmers’ preferences towards products. • To estimate the market potential of vegetables seed in the Jabalpur. • SWOT analysis. Conclusion Tomato, Okra, Chilly, Brinjal, Bottle gourd, Bitter gourd, Cabbage, Coriander and Ridge gourd are identified the principal vegetables crops of the study area for Okra (1208 ha.) followed by Coriander (895 ha.), Brinjal (630 ha), Tomato (527 ha.), Cauliflower (438 ha.), Chilly (406 ha.), Cabbage (403ha.), Bottle gourd (283 ha.), Ridge gourd (170 ha.) and Bitter gourd (66 ha.). There are many companies in market and they have good share but the local seed have captured the market in some of vegetable crops. There are many preferences of vegetables grower towards Nuziveedu seeds. they want the varieties of high yielding, better quality, disease and insect resistance, early maturity and suitable to their agro climatic region. seeds regarding threats, strong competitors are present in the field of hybrid seeds. RECOMMENDATION The recommendation on various aspects is as below Research and development wing of the company should be given more emphasis on development of early maturing, high yielding, disease and pest resistant varieties of vegetable crops. Varieties of vegetable crops should be developed with the consideration of farmer’s preference and specific agro climatic situation. Company should increase the product range with difference in quality to competing companies. More emphasis should be given to the product and sales promotion activities. The company should have to appoint more number of distributors/dealers at potential pockets of the area, to improve its make share, to ensure the timely and adequate supply of the product to the customer/farmers. |
