Description |
Canine babesiosis is a hemoprotozoan tick borne disease of dogs characterized by fever, depression and anemia. It is caused by different Babesia spp. the larger form designated as Babesia canis and smaller form as Babesia gibsoni (Homer et al.2000). At times, severe infection with a high level of parasitemia causes death in dogs due to multiorgan involvement. This short communication describes a severe case of Babesia canis infection in a Great Dane that succumbed due to multiple organ failure.
