The present study entitled “Effect of different fungicides on growth, yield and control of powdery mildew on bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) (Mol.) Standl.)” was conducted at Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi during rainy season of 2014 in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. The treatments included foliar spray of chemical fungicide (Sulfex) and bio-fungicide (Taegro and Trichoderma) either alone or in combination. A total of 22 characters including growth, yield and disease parameters were studied. Growth and yield parameters included days to first staminate flower anthesis, days to first pistillate flower anthesis, Days to 50% staminate flower appearance, Days to 50% pistillate flower appearance, internodal length (cm), number of node at which first staminate flower appears, number of node at which first pistillate flower appears, vine length (m), number of primary branches per plant,
number of node on main axis, fruit length (cm), fruit girth (cm), number of staminate flowers per plant, number of pistillate flowers per plant, sex ratio, number of fruits per plant, percent fruit set, average fruit weight (g), fruit yield per plant (kg), fruit yield per plot (kg) and disease parameters included powdery mildew disease incidence (%) and disease severity (%).
The bio-fungicide Taegro exhibited significant potential in reducing the powdery mildew in bottle gourd as compared to untreated control. But combined used of taegro with standard chemical sulfex gave better result than taegro alone, As a consequence, this may be used as part of an integrated disease management approach so as to reduce the use of standard fungicides at higher doses to which the fungus may develop resistance.
