The present study was conducted in Bhiwani and Yamunanagar district of Haryana state. Twenty respondents from each village were selected randomly for the study, having a total sample of 160 respondents. The specific objectives of present study were (1) To study the extent of people’s participation in the process of implementation of Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) (2) To study the impact of IWMP activities in the project area (3) To study the association of personal variable of respondents and their association with level of participation (4) To identify the constraints perceived by the respondents in implementation of programme. The data were collected through pre-tested structured interview schedule ten important independent variables namely, age, education, family education, land holding, socio-economic status, extension contact, mass-media exposure, scientific orientation, risk orientation and economic motivation and namely, people’s participation, impact assessment and constraints perceived by the respondents in Integrated Watershed Management Programme were the dependent variables. Majority of the respondents had medium level of participation at all the stages of Integrated Watershed Management Programme. people’s participation was assessed maximum in resource analysis and planning stage followed by other stges of Integrated Watershed Management Programme. The impact of Integrated Watershed Management Programme was assessed by comparing the response of respondents from watershed and non-watershed villages towards some common agricultural parameters. The average yield of crops, adoption level of crops production practices, adoption level of animal husbandry practices of respondents from watershed villages was found higher as compare to respondents from non-watershed villages. The study revealed that selected independent variables i.e. education, family education, socio-economic status, mass-media exposure, extension contact, risk orientation and economic motivation with the respondents from watershed villages, the results showed the positive relationship with cropping intensity, productivity of crops, adoption of crops and animal husbandry practices as compare to the respondents from non-watershed villages. The constraint analysis revealed that low level of awareness regarding programme benefits, lack of clear understanding of project objectives, local political interference, irregularity in payment of wages, lack of economic motivation, lack of collective action and decision made at higher level without consulting people, lack of demonstration were the constraints perceived by the respondents as serious to very serious constraints in the implementation of Integrated Watershed Management Programme. |
