Description |
Field experiments were conducted to find out suitable row proportion and nutrient management in pigeonpea and ashwagandha intercropping system at Agricultural College Farm, Raichur during kharif season of 2005 and 2006 under rainfed condition. The experiments were conducted on medium black clay loam soil with a pH of 8.2. The experiments were laid out in randomised block design. In the experiment on effect of row proportions, the sole pigeonpea recorded significantly higher seed yield (15.80 q ha-1) than the average yield obtained by intercropped pigeonpea under various row proportions (12.67 q ha-1). Among various row proportions studied, the seed yield produced under 2:4 (14.04 q ha-1) and 1:2 (13.95 q ha-1) was significantly higher than 2:1 (11.34 q ha-1). With respect to ashwagandha, the dry root yield realised under sole ashwagandha (437 kg ha-1) was significantly higher than the average yield of intercropped ashwagandha under various row proportions (313 kg ha-1). Among different row proportions, 1:4 (373 kg ha-1), 1:3 (360 kg ha-1) and 2:4 (354 kg ha-1) recorded on par dry root yield of ashwagandha and were significantly superior over 2:1 (244 kg ha-1). Significantly higher net returns (Rs. 33,520 ha-1) and B:C ratio (3.05) was obtained under 2:4 row proportion when compared to 2:1 (Rs.22, 403 ha-1 and 2.47, respectively). Another study was focussed on nutrient management in companion cropping of pigeonpea and ashwagandha. The results revealed that among various intercropped fertilized treatments, the seed yield of pigeonpea (12.84 q ha-1) obtained with the treatment receiving recommended FYM and 125 per cent RDF to pigeonpea rows (T5) was significantly higher than that which received the entire P through FYM and N through inorganics (T7) (10.27 q ha-1). Among the various intercropped fertilized ashwagandha, T6 (recommended FYM and RDF to pigeonpea and RDF to ashwagandha) recorded significantly higher dry root yield (369 kg ha-1) than that which received RDF through FYM and entire N through inorganics (T7) (232 kg ha-1). Significantly higher net returns (Rs. 32,219 ha-1) and B:C ratio (3.01) was recorded under T6 when compared to T7 (Rs. 18,111 ha-1 and 2.08, respectively). |
