Description Intensive agriculture may be one biggest drivers of homogenization in agricultural ecosystem and birds have been projected to be one of the top five groups of organisms to be affected by homogenization. The House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a small sized bird of the family Passeridae. The present study deals with abundance and breeding biology of House Sparrow in two villages of Ludhiana viz Kular and Jassowal. It was undertaken from March 2012 to February 2013 in four transects having different type of houses and vegetation. Observation were taken in morning and evening twice a week regarding their abundance and breeding biology. Common Myna and House Sparrow was found dominant bird species which were followed by Rose-ringed Parakeet and Blue Rock Pigeon. It was found that House Sparrow preferred Desi Kikar, Beri and Dharek trees for foraging and flocking purposes. House Sparrow nests were observed in the holes of uncemented walls, in crevices and in cavities of roof were having wooden ceiling panels of kuccha houses and cattle sheds. The clutch size ranged from 1 to 4 eggs and incubation period was observed 11 to 13 days. Hatching success was found 60% to 100%, nestling period from 13 to 15 days. In natural and artificial nests successful breeding House Sparrow was observed. It was concluded that artificial nests may provide alternate nesting sites for their conservation in villages. House Sparrow population play important role to control insect population during breeding period
