To study satisfaction levels of managers To study GPI manager attitude with regards to work life balance, career opportunities, and recognition. To study time management of managers. To suggest measures to create environment for employee satisfaction and individual development to meet company’s objective. Godfrey Phillips India Ltd (GPI) is a cigarette manufacturing company. The company’s market share in the industry is around 12%. The main competitors for GPI are ITC (Indian Tobacco Company) and VST (Vazeer Sultan Tobacco) company in the cigarette manufacturing industry. Godfrey Phillips is today the second largest player in the Indian cigarette industry with an annual turnover of over US$ 265 million. Incorporated in India in 1936, the Company established its own manufacturing facilities in 1944. Today, the operations span the entire country, with two manufacturing facilities located in Ghaziabad (near Delhi) and in Andheri (Mumbai), a state of the art R&D centre in Mumbai and a tobacco-buying unit in Guntur (Andhra Pradesh). Headquartered in Delhi, the Company has its sales offices across the country at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. The study mainly focused on different organizational behavior aspects like attitude of managers at GPI towards work-life balance, career opportunities and recognition. The study was also made on satisfaction levels of managers, time management of managers at GPI and the current work flow of managers at leaf division. There are total of eighteen managers in the Leaf Division of GPI Company including Senior Vice President and General Manager who form the sample for the study. The primary information is collected through questionnaires regarding various personal and behavioral aspects. The data is then analyzed and interpreted. As far as individual behavioral types are concerned (Passive, Manipulative, Aggressive and Assertive type) all the managers have the desirable attributes of assertive type of behavior. Regarding behavioral attributes based on GPI values and objectives the results are mixed i.e., few managers have shown some attributes and other managers have some other attributes. The study of attitudes towards work-life balance, career opportunities and recognition revealed that all the managers feel that they have good career opportunities and recognition for their work. But there is imbalance in work and personal life. The project study revealed that the managers are hard working in nature and they are very happy with their pay. Time management study proved that managers are utilizing their time effectively. The project study mainly suggested that managers could follow team approach by understanding each other. Senior managers can concentrate on non-monetary rewards and strengthening of middle management for improving the efficiency at all levels. |
