Description A field experiment was conducted during Kharif 2012, GKVK,
Bengaluru in red sandy loam soil (pH 6.1; OC 0.60 %) with medium
available nitrogen (290.41 kg ha-1), phosphorous (43.01 kg ha-1) and
potassium (253.34 kg ha-1) and experiment was laid out in factorial
RCBD with ten treatments and replicated thrice. The variety used was
MAS 946-1. The results revealed that application of nitrogen at 120 kg
ha-1 recorded significantly higher plant height (42.33 cm), leaf area (2864
cm2 plant-1), total dry matter (106.22 g plant-1), higher productive tillers
plant-1 (22.77), test weight (22.49) and total number of filled grains
panicle-1 (89.80) which resulted in higher grain (5378 kg ha-1) and straw
yield (7545 kg ha-1) as compared to other levels of nitrogen and
accounted 39.25 per cent higher grain yield of rice as compared to
nitrogen at 100 kg ha-1.
Among the time of application of nitrogen, application of nitrogen
as 50 % at sowing + 25 % at tillering (25 DAS) + 25 % at panicle
initiation (50 DAS) recorded significantly higher plant height (38.57 cm),
leaf area (2454 cm2 plant-1), total dry matter (89.50 g plant-1), higher
productive tillers plant-1 (18.41), test weight (21.75 g) and total number
of filled grains panicle-1 (70.65) which resulted in higher grain (4318 kg
ha-1) and straw yield (6847 kg ha-1) and accounted 19.84 per cent higher
grain yield of rice over application of nitrogen as 10 % at sowing + 40 %
at tillering (25 DAS) + 25 % at 50 DAS + 25 % at (75 DAS).
Application of nitrogen at 120 kg ha-1 with application of nitrogen
as 50 % at sowing + 25 % at tillering (25 DAS) + 25 % at panicle
initiation (50 DAS) recorded higher net income (Rs. 69517 and 55205
ha-1, respectively) and B:C ratio (2.12 and 1.69, respectively).
