Description The present study was designed to study factors affecting the breeding profile of common myna. For this study, eleven transects with different trees and surroundings were selected to observe the breeding biology of common myna. The results included nesting, clutch size, egg laying, hatching pattern, egg weight, egg length, egg width, egg volume, shape index, specific gravity, weight of yolk, albumin and eggshell, eggshell thickness and pesticide analysis. Mynas laid 4-5 eggs in one clutch and they were glossy, pale-blue and oval in shape. Common myna preferred those areas which are surrounded with trees and buildings to make nests. The most preferred tree was gulmohar followed by silver oak for making cavity nests and egg laying. More than 85% nests were observed cavity nests. Common myna preferred cavity nests such as in roofs of houses, holes of walls, holes of trees as compared to natural nests. Nesting materials used by common myna included twigs, leaves, feathers, paper, plastics, dry stems. Hatching success was 63.82%. The morphometric indices did not vary in eggs of different nests observed in different trees. The shape index of common myna eggs was ranged from 66.54 to 80.79 and eggshell thickness ranged from 0.16 mm to 0.35 mm. The CaCO3weight and proportion were ranged from 0.217 gm to 0.341 gm and 70 % to 77.5 % respectively. No pesticide residue of any group was detected in coneggtents of common myna.
