Amo ng females NVSR-178 and amo ng males NAUR-1 , IET -21682 , RP-4075-129-07-3 and IR8 1025-B-116-1 e xhi bite d hi gh gc a ef fects for gr ai n yiel d per pl ant and were o bser ve d as goo d ge ner al combi ner for yie l d and mo st of its co ntr i buti ng c har acters and t hese may be ut ili ze d i n f urt her bree di ng pro gr amme. The crosses wit h hi gh sc a eff ects were i n ge ner al combi natio ns of pare nts wit h goo d x goo d, goo d x poor or goo d x aver age and poor x poor g ca effec ts. The fre que nc y of goo d x goo d was o bser ve d more . This was re pr ese nte d i n best t hree hybri ds for gr ai n yie l d per pl ant viz. , NVSR-178 x NAUR-1 (goo d x goo d) , NVSR-178 x IET-21682 ( goo d x goo d) and IR-28 x NAUR-1 ( poor x goo d) had si gnific ant desire d s ca effec ts and si gnific ant desire d hetero tic res po nse o ver better pare nt . The freque nc y of goo d x goo d was more . Amo ng to p te n hybr i ds, for s i x hybri ds viz ., NVSR-178 x NAUR-1, NVSR-178 x IET-21682 , NVSR-176 x IR81025-B-116-1 , NVSR-178 x RP -4075-129-07-3 , NVSR-176 x IET-21682 and NVSR-176 x NAUR-1 bo t h of the ir pare nts were fo und to be goo d ge ner al combi ners . Phe not ypic st abili t y anal ysi s re ve ale d si gnific ant diffe re nces amo ng all t he i nter ac tio ns [ge not ypes, e nviro nme nts (E) , G x E i nter ac tio n, e nviro nme nt s (Li ne ar) and G x E (Li ne ar) ] for all t he char acte rs whe n teste d agai nst t he poole d error and poole d de vi at io n exce pt t he me an s quares due to poole d de vi atio n for days to 50 per cent floweri ng and amylo se co nte nt , whe n teste d agai nst poole d error , whic h s uggeste d import ance of bot h li ne ar and no nli ne ar compo ne nts i n buil di ng up tot al G x E i nter act io n. The best t hree hi gh yiel di ng and st able hybri ds o ve r enviro nme nts for gr ai n yiel d per pl ant were NVSR -178 x NAUR-1 , NVSR-178 x IET-21682 and NVSR-176 x IR80501-B-96 -1-B. The hybri d, NVSR-178 x NAUR-1 was fo und to be st able for days to 50 per cent floweri ng, panicle le ngt h, number of gr ai ns per panicle , gr ai n yiel d per pl ant , amylose co nte nt and prote i n co nte nt . On t he basis of per se per formance, hetero sis, combi ni ng abili t y and st abilit y o ve r envi ro nme nts , cross combi natio n NVSR-178 x NAUR-1 was fo und to be t he most promisi ng and may be e xploite d i n pr acti c al pl ant bree di ng pro gr amme. The s ame may be e val uate d critic all y to j udge its s uperiori t y i n performance wit h s t abilit y acro ss the ye ars and soil t ype for i ts utilit y o n commerci al sc ale. Fi ndi ng co nfirms t hat ri ce cro p has vast so urce o f vari abi lit y whic h c an be effecti ve l y e xploite d to pro duce hi ghl y heterot ic cross combi natio ns and varieties s uit able for aero bic condit io ns. It is t he ultimate sol ut io n for pro bl ems re gar di ng rice pro ducti vi t y i n t he worl d, whic h are c halle nge d by i ncre asi ng foo d demand and t hre ate ne d by decli ni ng water avail abi lit y, c an effecti ve l y be sol ve d by pl ant bre e ders. |
