Description A field experiment was conducted at Students
farm, College of Agriculture, Rajendr.anagar during Rabi
season 1988-89 to study ·the effect of naphthaleneacetic
acid (NAA), gibberellic acid (GA) and triacontanol
(TRIA) on growth, . flowering, pod setting and yield of
greengram (Vigna radiata (L.)wilczek) cv.ML-267. Three
concentrations each of NAA (10,20,40 ppm),GA(l0,20,40
ppm), TRIA (O.S,1,2 ppm) and the control were tested in
a randomized block design. NAA, GA and TRIA increased vegetative growth
viz., plant height, leaf number, leaf area, LAI and
total plant phytomass. Among the treatments GA and NAA
at 40 ppm and TRIA at 2ppm recorded maximum values.
GA and NAA regulated the reproductive growth by
decreasing the number of days to flowering and pod
maturity. Application of .NAA followed by GA and TRIA
reduced the flower drop by 58-70% and thus increased the
pod setting.
GA recorded significantly higher pod number
and seed yields followed by TRIA and NAA. Among the
treatments GA and NAA at 40 ppm and TRIA at 1 ppm was
more efficient in increasing the pod number and seed
yields.
higher
40 ppm.
Increased levels of NAA recorded significantly
test weight followed by TRIA at 1 ppm and GA at
Chlorophyll content and nitrate reductase
activity increased with increase in the levels of GA
followed by NAA. and TRIA.
Nitrogen content in leaves and seeds increased
with increased NAA, GA and TRIA levels.
