Description |
The present investigation “Efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi on lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius) (Bostrychidae: Coleoptera) during storage” was conducted in the Post Harvest Technology Center, Agricultural College, Bapatla, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh during 2011-12. The entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae and Lecanicillium lecanii @ 5 g/L as bag treatment and 5g/kg of paddy as grain treatment were tested against lesser grain borer, R. dominica. The conidial concentration of 2 x 106, 1 x 109 and 2 x 107/g were present in B. bassiana, M. anisopliae and L. lecanii respectively. Among the grain treatment highest mortality was observed with B. bassiana (88.89%) followed by M. anisopliae (81.48%) which were on par with each other and the lowest mortality of 59.26% was recorded with L. lecanii at 15 DAT. Among the bag treatments, B .bassiana and M. anisopliae have recorded equal mortality of adults (29.63 %) whereas L. lecanii has recorded least mortality of 22.22% at 15 DAT. The grain treatment was found to be superior to bag treatment, but both were significantly superior over control. Among grain treatment, the least progeny of 122.33 was observed with B. bassiana followed by M. anisopliae (130.67) which were at par at 180 DAT. The highest progeny was recorded with L. lecanii (168.67). Among the grain treatment, B. bassiana proved superior with less per cent weight loss of 21.24 followed by M. anisopliae & L. lecanii (24.03 & 27.59%) at 180 DAT. Among the bag treatment lower per cent weight loss was recorded with M. anisopliae (29.76%) than B. bassiana (31.71%) & L. lecanii (36.35%), but were significantly different from control (52.85%). Interactions of entomopathogenic fungi at 15 DAT, revealed that the grains treated with Beauveria + Metarhizium have recorded the highest adult mortality of 96.30% followed by Beauveria + Metarhizium + Lecanicillium (92.13%) when compared to Beauveria (89.17%), Metarhizium (84.63%) and Lecanicillium (62.22%) tested alone. At 180 DAT, Beauveria + Metarhizium + Lecanicillium has recorded least progeny adults of 119.67 followed by Beauveria + Metarhizium (122.00) when compared to control (398.67). At 180 DAT, Beauveria + Metarhizium + Lecanicillium and Beauveria + Metarhizium recorded less per cent weight loss of 17.68 and 18.75 per cent when compared to control (51.27%). Compatibility of entomopathogenic fungi with vegetable oils revealed that the highest adult mortality of R. dominica was recorded with Metarhizium + Groundnut oil (81.57%) followed by Beauveria + groundnut oil (78.54%) at 15 DAT. Progeny build up recorded at 180 DAT was found to be less with Beauveria + Groundnut oil (118.33) followed by Metarhizium + Groundnut oil (121.33) when compared to control (517.00) and were superior over all other treatments. At 180 DAT, less per cent weight loss was recorded with Beauveria + Groundnut oil (17.59%) followed by Metarhizium + Groundnut oil (19.01%) when compared with control (50.09 %). |
