Description |
Bael fruit is important from religious, nutritional and medicinal considerations. Wide variations in tree, leaf, fruit and bio-chemical characters exist in different areas. So, studying these characters help in the process of selection and hybridization in any crop improvement programme. Therefore, the present study entitled “EVALUATION OF BAEL GENOTYPES FOR GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY ATTRIBUTES” was undertaken to evaluate growth, yield and biochemical parameters in 20 Accessions of bael from Odisha. The study was conducted during 2013 in different locations with three replications. A single tree was selected for tree characters and five fruits for fruit characters as the ideal sample size. All the quantitative characters were statistically analyzed and qualitative characters visually observed and reported by a panel of members. The results revealed that significant variation existed in respect of tree height, number of primary branches, tree spread, total chlorophyll content of leaf, leaf area, fruit weight, fruit size, number of fruits, pulp weight, rind weight, number of seeds, total seed weight, fibre weight, TSS, acidity, reducing and non-reducing sugars and ascorbic acid contents of fruit. Both fruit weight and pulp weight was recorded maximum in Acc.7 while number of fruits were found maximum in Acc.3. The maximum TSS (33.77 0 brix) of fruits was recorded in Acc.19 whereas titrable acidity was maximum (1.11%) in Acc.1. |
