Description The present investigation is an effort to prepare a ration by supplement chandrasoor seeds were carried out on its performance in lactating animals. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the effect of chandrasoor on the galactogogue activity in relation to milk yield and its major constituents with following objectives:
1. To standardize the doses of chandrasoor for increasing galactogogue activity in cows.
2. To study the effect on milk production, after feeding chandrasoor containing ration.
3. To estimate the changes occurs in major milk constituents by feeding chandrasoor containing ration.
All the 12 lactating cows in the 6 different group‟s viz. control Tl, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 were first put on the control ration for a period of 7 days and thereafter, the cow were put on ration formulated for different treatments. The entire feeding experiment was divided into three phases viz. Phase I, Phase II and Phase III and recorded the milk yield and its major constituents during the study.
During Phase I, the cows in the respective groups were fed control rations namely - Tl, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 for a period of 7 days (control period).
During Phase II, the cows under the respective groups were put on the formulated concentrate ration having chandrasoor seed content of 0, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 g for - Tl, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 respectively, for the period of 7 days (treatment period).
In Phase III, the cows under the respective groups were put again on control ration Tl, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 rations for 45 days (residual period).
The fresh milk samples were analyzed for pH, Acidity, Lactose Protein, Fat, Total solid content in milk. The fresh milk sample in morning and evening was analyzed every day. The
changes in pH, Acidity, Lactose, Protein, Fat and Total solid and also observe the effect of chandrasoor seed containing ration on milk yield for each phase during the experimentation.
During the experiment milk yield was recorded to observe the effect of chandrasoor containing ration on milk yield was highly significant i.e. 6.48, 6.62 and 7.20 liter/day in three phases of the study. Among all treatment T5 is a appropriate dose of chandrasoor seed in which about 11 per cent milk yield was increased as compared to control, the effect of chandrasoor containing ration on Lactose, Protein, Fat and Total solid was also observed by means of chemical analysis for Lactose 4.39, 4.56 and 6.14, for Protein 3.57, 3.75 and 4.53, for Fat 3.44, 3.72 and 4.43 and Total solid 11.84, 12.32 and 13.23, during the three phases. From the study it was observed that T5 (250 g/day) chandrasoor seed dose was more suitable then the other doses because in this treatment (T5) all major constituents of milk were increased significantly as overall quality and quantity of milk was improved.
Therefore, it could be concluded that supplementing lactating cow‟s feed with chandrasoor seed is recommended as a new step in improving productive performance of the lactating cows, regarding milk yield and its major constituents.
