Description An experiment entitled “Effect of biofertilizers with different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth and flower yield of gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv. Candyman”. The experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Nursery, Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, College of Agriculture, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, (C.G.) during the year 2015-16.
The studies consisted of seven treatments which were combinations of 100% RDF to 75% RDF of Nitrogen and Phosphorus fertilizers with and without biofertilizers Azotobacter and PSB and were replicated thrice in Randomized Block Design (RBD).
The results revealed that plants receiving 75% N and P (112.5:75:80 kg NPK ha-1) + Azotobacter + PSB significantly increased growth, flowering, quality and yield attributes of gladiolus viz., days required for sprouting of corms, days required for spike emergence, days required for opening of first pair of florets, days required for 50% flowering, length of fully opened florets, diameter of fully opened florets, length of spike, length of rachis, number of florets spike-1, number of spike plant-1, number of spike plot-1, number of spike ha-1, number of corms plant-1 and number of cormels plant-1 when compared with RDF and other treatments. As regarding diameter of fully opened florets the treatment of 75% N and P (112.5:75:80 kg NPK ha-1) + Azotobacter + PSB, 100% N and P (150:100:80 kg NPK ha-1) + Azotobacter + PSB and RDF alone were found significantly at par with each other. 100% N and P (150:100:80 kg NPK ha-1) + Azotobacter + PSB also increased growth, flowering, yield and quality of gladiolus significantly over RDF except days required for sprouting of corms, days required for 50% flowering, length of spike, number of corms plant-1 and number of cormels plant-1.
