Serum esterase polymorphism Mandya sheep |
|
Description |
Serum samples of 107 adult Mandya sheep were analysed on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to find out serum esterase polymorphism. The zymograms revealed three types of esterases and were identified as ali, aryl and choline esterases based on their electrophoretic mobility coupled with inhibition tests. Among the three types observed, genetic polymorphism was encountered with arylesterase only. Based on the staining intensity, the arylesterase variants were classified into EsA+, EsA- and a phenotype having intermediate activity. The gene frequency of EsA+ and EsA- were found to be 0.3224 and 0.6776 respectively. The x² test of significance revealed that the population was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.
