Description |
The present study entitled “Effect of nitrogen and spacing on growth, floweringand yield of tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.)” was carried out at experimental orchard of Department of Horticulture, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during the crop season of 2012-13. Five levels of nitrogen (0, 10, 15, 20 & 25 g/m 2 ) with three spacing (20 × 20 cm, 20 × 30 cm, 20 × 40 cm.) were used in the present investigation. The experiment comprising fifteen treatments was laid out as factorial randomized block design with three replications and 1.2x1.2 m plot size. Seven competitive plants were randomly selected from each treatment to record data on various parameters. Results showed that 25 g N/m 2 improved sprouting of bulbs, plant height, spike girth, spike and rachis length, weight of spike, number of florets per spike, number of spikes per plot, flower yield per hectare and bulb production. Higher dose of nitrogen also resulted in delayed spike initiation and flowering. The results also showed that the 20 × 40 cm spacing recorded significant effect on sprouting of bulbs, spike girth, spike length, rachis length, spike weight, number of florets per spike and bulb production whereas spacing of 20 × 20 cm recorded better plantheight, spike emergence, flowering, number of spikes per plot and flower yield per hectare. Application of 25 g N/m 2 i.e. 250 kg N/ha at 20 × 40 cm spacing showed better results in terms of growth, flowering and yield of tuberose. |
