Description A study on the interaction kinetics of the drug enrofloxacin with commonly
used toxin binders viz. hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate (HSCAS) and
activated charcoal (AC) was conducted in broiler chicken. Ninety six apparently
healthy commercial broiler chicken of six weeks age, divided into eight groups of
twelve each were used to explore the pharmacokinetics of enrofloxacin after single
intravenous bolus, oral bolus and pulse dosing (drinking water) at a dose rate of
10mg.kg^-1 b.wt.
Interaction kinetics was studied after single (10mg.kg^-1) and multiple pulse
dosing (10mg.kg^-1 for 5 days) by comparing enrofloxacin alone treated group with
groups supplemented with either HSCAS or AC through feed at the rate of 0.5 per
cent. Blood samples were collected from all the groups at predetermined time
intervals and enrofloxacin concentrations in plasma were analyzed by HPLC method
and pharmacokinetic parameters such as AUC, Vd area, ClB, t1/2, Cmax, tmax, Cp and F
were calculated.
Comparison of the mean pharmacokinetic parameters revealed significant (p
