Rice (Oryza sativa) is one of the most important stable food crops in the world. To sustain present food self-sufficiency and to meet future food requirements, there is a need to increase rice productivity by 3 % per annum. However, the production of rice is adversely affected by a number of biotic and abiotic stresses. Plant growth-promoting fluorescent Pseudomonas have received particular attention throughout the global science because of their catabolic versatility, excellent root colonizing ability and their capacity to produce a wide range of enzymes particularly ACC deaminase that favour the plant withstand under varied biotic and abiotic stress conditions. Therefore, the present study was undertaken with an objective to identify that candidate ACC deaminase containing Fluorescent Pseudomonas capable of alleviating drought and flooding stress in rice. The isolates were collected from different geographical locations of Chhattisgarh and characterized based on biochemical tests. Eleven candidate isolates selected for field experiments on drought and flooding were screened for ACC deaminase enzyme production and other plant growth promoting potentials. All the isolates were characterized at molecular level based on 16S rRNA gene, Acds gene and HCN gene. 16S r RNA and ACC deaminase gene sequences were sequenced for eleven candidate isolates. |
