Description The study was conducted in rural and urban areas of district Hisar of state Haryana. The
objective of the study was to assess the adaptive behaviour skills of children in relation to their
parenting styles. A sample comprised of 100 children and 200 their parents. The results revealed that
authoritative parents were positively significantly correlated with adaptive behaviour of children,
whereas authoritarian and permissive parents were negatively correlated with adaptive behaviour of
children. Comparison over location indicated that mean performance of urban children regarding the
adaptive behaviour skills was significantly better than their rural counterparts. Further study revealed
that aspects of home environment such as encourage of maturity, emotional climate, learning materials
and opportunities, enrichment, family companionship and physical environment were significantly
associated with adaptive behaviour. The total home environment and socio-personal variable were also
significantly associated with adaptive behaviour of children as well as parenting styles.
