Description Manpower planning is the process of determining manpower
requirements of the organization. Manpower planning ensures the
organization with right number and right kind of people in the right
places. The present study was taken up considering the three Social
Science departments namely department of Agricultural -Extension,
Economics and Marketing of UAS, Bangalore during the year 2010-11 to
analyse the existing pattern of manpower placement, to examine the
different policies and programmes of the University and to assess the job
satisfaction of the faculty members. The study uses both primary and
secondary data. Secondary data was collected from the Administrative
Office of UAS, Bangalore. To analyse the job satisfaction 52 respondents
were interviewed. Analytical tools employed were percentages and Garrett
ranking. Results showed presence of vacancy in all the three
departments[department wise- Agricultural Extension - 40 percent
(Professor), Agricultural Economics- 38 percent(Assistant Professor),
Agricultural Marketing -67 percent(Associate Professor), cadre wise-27
percent(Professor and Assistant Professor)]. Results also showed there do
exist standard guidelines for different policies and programmes of the
University such as recruitment, promotion, transfer etc., Majority of the
faculty members opined positively on promotion process, social security
policy aspects and negatively on training and transfer process aspects.
Faculty members expressed highest satisfaction level on salary attribute
and least satisfaction was expressed on training attribute. Thus a proper
planning in placing the manpower is required and the University should
mandatorily follow all the policies and programmes as per the guidelines.
