Description |
Correlation studies were worked out between the population of predators and that of sucking pests. There was a positive correlation between aphid and ladybird beetle, thrips and lady bird beetle, leaf hopper and lady bird beetle and leaf hopper and spider with „r‟ value of 0.758 (regression equation, y = 0.038x + 0.398, R2 = 0.570), 0.829 (regression equation, y = 0.03x + 0.410, R2 = 0.687), 0.810 (regression equation, y = 0.083x + 0.170, R2 = 0.664) and 0.865 (regression equation, y = 0.158x + 0.190, R2 = 0.749), respectively at 5 per cent level of significance. Similarly, whitefly density was significantly negatively correlated with minimum temperature (r = (-) 0.760, regression equation y = 2.513x + 18.17, R2=0.579) and evening relative humidity (r (-) 0.839, regression equation y = 1.698 + 2.231, R2 = 0.705) and significantly positively correlated with sunshine hours ( r= 0.759,regression equation y = 1.698+2.231, R2= 0.577). Among the tested cultivars Kufri Chipsona-I recorded lowest incidence of aphid (2.5per plant), thrips (2.69/plant) and leaf hopper (2.04/plant) and maximum tuber yield (108.33q/ha). The treatment Imidacloprid 17.8 SL (150 ml/ha) followed at 15 days interval by Thiamethoxam 25 WG 100g/ha was most effective and economical against sucking pests with maximum tuber yield of 129.17q/ha and 16.95:1 B:C ratio. Imidacloprid when applied at 150ml/ha was most safe to predatory fauna present on the crop with maximum population of lady bird beetle (0.50/plant), spider (0.62/plant) and staphylinid beetle (0.57/plant) . |
