Description Ph.D. Thesis
Use of stunted carp fingerlings for culture round the year is an
important modification adopted by the farmers. The present investigation
was to evaluate and compare the disease resistance mechanisms in
stunted fingerlings of mrigal with those of normal mrigal at the time of
stocking in grow-out ponds. To obtain stunted fingerlings, fry of mrigal
were stocked at higher stocking density of 1,00,000/ha and fed with a
mixture of ricebran and groundnut oil cake (1:1) at 2% of body weight. For
comparison, fry of mrigal were stocked at low density 15,000/ha and fed
with a mixture of ricebran and groundnut oil cake (1:1) at 5% of body
weight. Studies on growth, survival and health status in stunting and
normal mrigal were carried out during the experimental rearing period of 6
months. On termination of the experimental rearing, disease susceptibility
to Aeromonas hydrophila, humoral immune response to A. hydrophila and
SRBC, protective immunity in immunized fish, inflammatory response to
A. hydrophila and FCA were studied.
