Description |
A field experiment entitled “Study on Weed management in Different Methods of Rice Establishment” was conducted during the kharif season 2011 at Agronomy Research Farm, Central Research Station, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar. The experiment was laid out in split-plot design with sixteen treatments in respect of its four main plots and four subplots. The main plots contain four different methods of rice establishment i.e.M1(SRI), M2(Transplanting), M3(Line sowing) dry seeding and M4(Drum seeding), and the subplots contain four different type of weed management practices i.e. W1(Pyrazosulfuron –ethyl @20 g ha-1), W2(Conoweeding), W3(Two hand weeding) and W4(weedy check ), which were replicated thrice. “Pratikshya” was grown as the test variety of rice. The soil of the experimental site was sandy loam in texture with pH 5.45, EC(0.14 ds m-1) medium in organic carbon (0.64%), low in available nitrogen(174.58 Kg ha-1), but high in available phosphorus (40.626 Kg ha-1) and high in available potassium (312.54 Kg ha-1). Severe infestation of weeds reduced the yield by 32, 38, 39 and 52 percent in transplanted, SRI, drum seeded and direct seeded rice. In total fifteen species of weeds infested in the rice field. Weed parameters like weed density (8.0 no m-2), weed dry matter (5.53 g m-2) and weed index were lowest in SRI. With respect to weed management practices weed density was recorded lowest in pyrazosulfuron-ethyl @20 g ha-1(7.53 no m-2) while lowest weed dry matter (2.7 no m-2) and highest weed control efficiency 75.9 percent were recorded in conoweeder. Crop growth parameters like plant height (117.4cm and 117.8cm) and number of tillers m-2(359 and 338), were recorded highest in drum seeding and conoweeder respectively. Plant dry matter (1033.3 g m-2 and 1099.1g m-2), LAI(2.9 and 3.4), CGR (3.12 and 3.21 g m-2 day-1) were recorded highest in SRI and conoweeder of main and subplot respectively. On the other hand RGR 0.003 g g-1 day -1 was highest in transplanting and conoweeder. In yield attributing characters highest length of panicle 26.37 cm and 26.4 cm, Panicle weight of 6.63g and 6.69g, number of grains panicle-1 of 224 and 235, 1000 grain- weight of 22.6g and 22.8 g, grain yield of 5.02 t ha-1 and 4.76 t ha-1 were recorded in SRI and conoweeder respectively. While highest straw yields were recorded in SRI (5.8 t ha-1)and conoweder (5.5 t ha-1). Weedy check recorded highest nutrient content of weeds. The content of N, P and K Were 0.83, 0.13, 1.29 per cent respectively and N, P and K uptake by weeds 82.4, 13.4 and 127.7 Kg ha-1 respectively. The highest Benefit : cost ratio were recorded in the SRI supplemented with conoweeder. |
