Description India is predominantly an agricultural country. More than 70.00 per cent of the
Indian population directly depends on Agriculture for their livelihood. But its
contribution towards nations gross domestic product (GDP) is only 18.05 percent. For
the last few years there was no stability in production and productivity of food grains
due to various problems in Agriculture among the most important one is lack of
transfer of latest improved technology to the farmers from the Research stations.
Bettering the socio, economic standards of rural folks by upgrading their knowledge
and skills is the main objective of transfer of technology. For this the available
technology should be brought in line with the production process. This can be
achieved by planning and organization of specific and effective training programmes
to the farmers. The state have formed 299 AMC’s with objectives of overseeing day
to day functions of markets facilitating the free and fair market operations at market
yards and problems faced by farmers with reference to ensuring remunerative prices.
The training classes are organized to farmers at all market committees to educate
farmers on package of practices of major crops.
The study was conducted to assess the knowledge and adoption of advanced
package of practices of paddy and maize crop farmers who have been trained by
agricultural market committees and factors associated with them as well as the
problems perceived by the trained farmers.
Ex-post-facto Research design was followed in the present investigation,
Mahaboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh was purposively selected for the study.
From this state three mandals were selected and from each mandal two villages were
selected. From these villages 10 farmers each totally 60 trained farmers, 60 untrained
farmers were selected and thus making a total of 120 respondents. The data was
collected by personal interview method through structured interview schedule and
analyzed by using appropriate statistical tests.
Majority of the AMC trained farmers were middle aged, had middle school
education, marginal farm size, medium farming experience, medium extension
contact, medium achievement motivation, medium innovativeness, medium level of
risk preference, medium scientific orientation and medium market orientation.
Majority of the AMC trained farmers had higher level of knowledge and
adoption compared to untrained farmers.
Correlation analysis revealed that there was a positive and significant
relationship of independent variables like education, farm size, extension contact,
innovativeness, achievement motivation, scientific orientation with knowledge and
adoption.
Non-availability of quality seed in time, lack of inorganic fertilizers,
insufficient area specific varieties, insufficient institutional credit facilities,
insufficient extension staff, not having remunerative price for the final product were
the major problems perceived by the trained farmers.
Initiation to provide quality seed in time, scientists should produce more area
specific varieties, make sufficient institutional credit facilities, make available
adequate extension staff for the guidance, provide sufficient inorganic fertilizers and
government should provide remunerative prices for the produce were the suggestions
given by the trained farmers.
