Description An experimental investigation was carried out to study the effect of spacings and
fertilizer levels on crop growth, seed yield and quality in lablab bean under field condition
during kharif 2006-07 at Main Agricultural Research Station, UAS, Dharwad. The field
experiment consisted of two spacings viz., 45x15 cm (S1) and 60x15 cm (S2) and eight
fertilizer levels viz., F1-25:50:25 kg NPK per ha (RdF), F2-33:50:25 kg NPK per ha,
F3-25:67:25 kg NPK per ha, F4-25:50:33 kg NPK per ha, F5-33:67:25 kg NPK per ha,
F6-25:67: 33 kg NPK per ha, F7-33:50:33 kg NPK per ha and F8-33:67:33 kg NPK per ha. It
was laid out in RBD with factorial concept in three replications.
Significantly higher pod yield (20.44 q/ha), seed yield (17.10 q/ha), benefit cost ratio
(1:3.70) and net returns (Rs. 82,207/ha) were recorded in S1 compared to S2 spacing.
Whereas, pods per plant (19.06), seed yield per plant (16.92 g), 100 seed weight (30.48 g),
germination (89.58%) and seedling vigour index (5164) were higher in S2 spacing.
Irrespective of spacing, the F8 fertilizer levels recorded significantly more pod yield per plant
(23.68 g) and per ha (22.23 q), seed yield per plant (19.95 g) and per ha (18.50 q), benefit
cost ratio (1:4.07), 100 seed weight (31.36 g), germination percentage (91.10) and seedling
vigour index (5449) compared to F1 fertilizer level.
The interaction effects of S1xF8 recorded significantly more pod yield (23.48 q/ha),
seed yield (20.00 q/ha) and benefit cost ratio (1:4.45) compared to S2xF1. Whereas, S2xF8
recorded significantly maximum pods per plant (24.00), pod yield per plant (25.20 g), seed
yield per pant (22.70 g), 100 seed weight (32.33 g), germination percentage (92.20%) and
seedling vigour index (5592) compared to S1xF1 interaction combination.
