Description |
The incidence of Babesia gibsoni infection in dogs at Chennai, India was recorded for a period of one year. Out of 5832 dogs screened, only 5 (0.087%) had B. gibsoni organisms. Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks were recorded in 4 out 5 dogs. Haemogram of infected animals revealed anaemic changes with leucopenia. Changes in serum biochemical parameters viz., increased potassium and low sodium levels were also observed. The drug diminazene aceturate was found to have varied potency in treating the disease at recommended dose level.
