Description |
Faecal samples of 205 kids were examined for Cryptosporidium and gastrointestinal (GI) parasites. Cryptosporidium positive faecal samples were subjected to molecular characterization by PCR-RFLP. Comparative therapeutic efficacy was evaluated for Cryptosporidium using Tylosin orally and I/M, Toltrazuril orally, and combination of both orally. The overall prevalence of GI parasites and Cryptosporidium spp. was 98% and 14.63% respectively. Prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. was highest in monsoon. It was non-significantly higher in farm conditions and non-diarrhoeic kids. The intensity of the infection was of 1 score in 76.60% kids while in 23.30% kids only the infection intensity was of 2 score. Molecular characterization revealed band patterns of Cryptosporidium parvum. In therapeutic study, OPG reduction (44%) was highest in group given Tylosin I/M as compared to other groups at 5 days post treatment but maximum reduction in percentage OPG was seen at 10 days in group given Tylosin and Toltrazuril both (74%).
