Description ABSTRACT
The present investigations entitled ?Studies on cultivation practices of Angelica glauca Edgew? were carried out in the experimental field of the department of Forest Products, Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (H.P.) and Horticultural Regional Research Centre, Rahla, Manali (H. P.) during the year 2009-11. The effect of different soil media on seed germination, the effect of spacings and fertilizers on growth and yield parameters of Angelica glauca was studied and further cost of cultivation was also calculated. The results revealed that application of different soil media and field conditions had significant effects on seed germination of A. glauca. Sand + soil + cocopeat + vermicompost (1:1:1:1) medium under shade net house conditions was found to give best results for seed germination and growth parameters. Spacing of 45x45 cm gave maximum dry root weight (16.53 g) and oil content (1.20 per cent). Among different fertilizers the combination of vermicompost @ 10 t / ha + Azotobacter @ 5 kg / ha + PSB @ 5 kg / ha registered the maximum fresh root weight (60.63 g), dry root weight (17.21 g) and estimated dry root yield per hectare (1032.60). Maximum cost of production (Rs.1,31,553.19) was obtained in the combination of vermicompost @ 10 t / ha + Azotobacter @ 5 kg / ha + PSB @ 5 kg / ha. Maximum benefit: cost ratio (2.49:1) was obtained in the combination of FYM @ 10 t / ha + Azotobacter @ 5 kg / ha + PSB@ 5 kg / ha.
