Description |
Precise diagnosis of tuberculosis is very difficult. The traditionally employed intradermal allergic tests rely upon the cell mediated immune responses which have limitations. Nevertheless the single intradermal tuberculin test remains to be in vogue to screen cattle for tuberculosis. With the advent of recombinant DNA technology it is feasible to diagnose tuberculosis with appreciable sensitivity. The present study has employed polymerase chain reaction and microscopic examination of nasal discharges for acid-fast bacilli and single intradermal test in the diagnosis of tuberculosis in bovines and evaluated the relative merits of the tests.
