Description T-8812
This investigation was aimed at assessing perceptions of agricultural
scientists, extension personnel and farmers regarding climate change in the context
of agriculture. The study was conducted in the area under jurisdiction of MPKV,
Rahuri and DBSKKV, Dapoli agricultural universities. Stratified random sampling
procedure was followed in the selection of respondent agricultural scientists and
extension personnel, while farmers were selected through simple random sampling.
Total sample size was 180 comprising 60 agricultural scientists, 60 extension
personnel and 60 farmers. The study observed that overall perceptions of the
respondents were consistent with the climate change science but some of them had
misperceptions about certain issues like the scientific distinction between the terms
‘global warming’ and ‘climate change’. For instance, about 55 per cent respondent
agricultural scientists viewed use of nuclear power/energy as one of the reasons for
global warming. Short term training programme on climate change and agriculture
would help to bridge the gap between established science of climate change and such
perceptions of the respondents.
