Description T-8678
Cell wall bound ferulic acid and p-coumaric acids from maize leaves were quantified
by high performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detector (HPLCPDA).
The considerable variation was found in ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid
content in maize inbred lines at different plant-age. Higher quantities of ferulic acid
and p-coumaric acid content in maize plants were found at 10 and 25 days after the
germination (DAG), whereas, lower quantities were observed in 15 and 20 DAG.
Quantities of ferulic acid and p-coumaric acids were found to vary significantly
among the maize inbred lines. Higher quantities of ferulic acid and p-coumaric acids
was found in inbred lines HKI 577, HKI 323 and HKI 1105, whereas, low quantities
were found in inbred lines HKI 295, HKI 3-4-8-6ER and HKI 1035-10. The
quantities of p-coumaric acid and ferulic acid of in maize leaves of fresh weight
basis ranged from 1.5 to 4.7 mg/g and 1.3 to 3.9 mg/g.
