Description The present investigation on “Studies on the effect of IBA and
NAA on rooting of terminal cuttings of scented geranium
(Pelargonium graveolens (L) Herit) in different months” was under
taken in Herbal garden, ANGRAU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, during the
period from August, 2002 to January, 2003. The experiment was laid out
in randomised block design with factorial concept.
In the present study, IBA proved to be superior to NAA in all the
growth parameters during all the months studied.
Increase in concentration of IBA and NAA upto a maximum of
2000 ppm resulted in early formation of root initials, highest rooting
percentage, and higher percentage of establishment in all the months. IBA at 2000 ppm advanced root initials formation during all the
months. NAA at higher concentration (1500, 2000, 2500 ppm) recorded
less number of days for formation of root initials.
Percentage of rooting was maximum with IBA at 2000 ppm and
NAA at 1500 ppm. IBA at 2000 ppm and NAA at 1500 ppm resulted in
production of maximum number of roots, root length and cumulative root
length.
Diameter of the root, fresh and dry weights of roots were maximum
with IBA and NAA at 2000 ppm during November.
Cumulative shoot length and number of fully expanded new leaves
were maximum with IBA 2000 ppm during all the months where as NAA
2000 ppm recorded maximum only during November month.
Maximum percentage of establishment in the field was observed
with IBA 2000 ppm during all the months while NAA 1500 ppm during
December month only. IBA at 2000 ppm, during November proved to be
the best for commercial multiplication of rose scented geranium under
Hyderabad conditions.
