Description Scented Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens L. Herit) a perennial
aromatic crop is affected by a destructive fungus, Fusarium solani
causing wilt disease. Survey for incidence of Fusarium wilt revealed that
disease incidence ranged from 45 to 80 per cent with a maximum disease
noticed at Sugandhavana, Division of Horticulture, GKVK, Bangalore and
the least disease recorded in Hosakote, Bangalore, Pathogen was isolated
from the wilt infected plants and was identified as Fusarium solani based
on morphological and cultural characters. Indigenous biocontrol agents
isolated from rhizosphere of scented geranium were identified as
Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum and Pseudomonas
fluorescens based on morphological and biochemical tests. In vitro
evaluation of antagonists revealed that Trichoderma viride followed by
Trichoderma harzianum inhibited the Fusarium solani by 85 per cent and
73 per cent respectively. Volatile/non-volatile substances and culture
filtrates of T. viride inhibited F. solani spore germination significantly
compared to other bioagents. Application of T. viride (native strain) + P.
fluorescens (GKVK-2) @ 20g/sqm reduced the soil population of F. solani
and wilt incidence significantly (9.25%) against 90.48 per cent in control
besides, improving the plant height (89 cm), primary branches (11) and
fresh herb yield (539.7 q/ha) compared to untreated control.
