Description |
Foreign body penetration causes necrosis of tissue or related changes, which when infected by pyogenic bacteria cause abscess (Smith et al., 1974). Cereal or grass awns of some plants possess sharp bristles and thus, and potential foreign body to grazing animals. In cattle, awns of squirrel tail grass of foxtail grass (Hordeum jubatum) penetrate cheek mucosa and produce multiple subcutaneous abscesses (Blood et al., 1983). The present report places on record trauma and abscess due to bristles of spear grass (Heteropogan contortus) awns in Bharat Merino lambs.
