Description M. Sc. (Ag.)
Students registered for Postgraduate Degree programme in three institutes offering professional courses namely Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Medical Sciences and Institute of Management Studies in the academic year 2015-16 were the target population for this study. Out of the total 1231 students of these three institutes, 123 respondents (10% of population) were selected to form the sample by applying random sampling technique using proportionate to the size method. Data was collected through self-administered structured questionnaire. A final data from
120 respondents was taken for analysis as 3 of the respondents did not return the questionnaire. Collected data were tabulated and analysed in the light of the objectives of the study using simple statistical techniques like frequency, percentage, mean and rank order. Finally, it can be inferred that the students do have positive perception towards e-learning which has the key role to play in influencing their present as well as future use of e-learning tools/platforms. This positive perception also has a vital effect in increasing the effectiveness of their learning via this novel medium. All of students do have access to internet are actively using internet for their multifarious activities like academic preparation, e-mail, online shopping etc. But it is also evident from the results that students are relatively lacking awareness about various e-learning initiatives /courses as well as most recent advances of this technological breakthrough like Quora, Coursera, online discussion, blogging etc. This lack of awareness as well as use of these advantageous e-learning platforms/tools do emphasize the need to make students aware about them. This will thence enable the learners to fully harness the potential of this favorable technological intervention.
