Description The investigation was undertaken to study the effect of seed treatment with
micronutrients, bio-fertilizers and pesticides in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) at
AICRP on sunflower, Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Gandhi Krishi Vignana
Kendra, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru during kharif-2013. The
experiment consisted of fifteen treatments laid out in a Randomised Complete Block
Design with three replications. Treatments include application of micronutrients (Zn and
B) through different methods like seed treatment, soil application and foliar application in
combination with bio-fertilizers (Azotobacter and PSB) and pesticide (Imidacloprid) as
individual application and in combinations along with RDF (90:90:60 kg NPK ha-1).
The experimental results revealed that, application of imidacloprid as seed
treatment + ZnSO4 spray at star bud stage along with RDF recorded significantly higher
plant height (179.5 cm per plant) and higher SAPD meter reading (37.56) was recorded
with imidacloprid seed treatment + ZnSO4 and borax seed treatment along with RDF at
60 DAS. Higher seed yield (2383 kg ha-1), oil yield (961 kg ha-1), better yield attributes
and higher BCR (2.23) were recorded with imidacloprid seed treatment + borax spray
(0.2%) at ray floret initiation stage along with RDF. Oil content in the seed was not
influenced by these treatments. Combined application of micronutrients, bio-fertilizers
and pesticides through seed treatment performed better, hence recorded better BCR
compared to sole application, basal soil application and RDF alone for KBSH-53 hybrid.
