Description The present studies were conducted during the year 2012 at Regional Station, Abohar and Department of Fruit Science, Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana on grapefruit cv. Star Ruby. The physico-chemical parameters like fruit size, volume, weight, pulp moisture, TSS, TSS/acid ratio and sugars increased with maturity. The acidity of the fruit decreased significantly from the stage of fruit set to the ripe stage and minimum in the month of November. The peel moisture and thickness decreased during the maturity period. The TSS, TSS/acid ratio, reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars and total sugars were recorded maximum in the month of November and decreased subsequently in December. The month of October was the rind colour breakdown stage and complete colour development in the month of November. But no specific trend for specific gravity was recorded. The vitamin C content was found decreased with the advancement of the season from the fruit setting to maturity and value of vitamin C was recorded 44.32 mg/100 ml juice during the maturity period. The N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn contents in the pulp were recorded 0.860%, 0.215%, 1.15%, 0.421%, 0.124%, 44.27ppm, 13.40ppm, 10.33ppm and 3.55ppm during the maturity. The nutrients decreased in the fruit peel and pulp from the fruit setting to maturity of fruit. The K, Ca, Mg, Fe and Mn contents were higher in the fruit peel but the N, P, Zn and Cu contents were higher in the fruit pulp. The suitable time for foliar sampling was found in the month of September – October (Seven to eight months old leaves) from the fruiting terminals (FT) and non-fruiting terminals (NFT) for determining the macro and micro nutrient status of grapefruit due to the least variation and longer stable period.
