Description The present investigation was carried out in one hundred fifty
one horses in five district of Rajasthan. The serum samples were
examined by c-ELISA test for seropositive of T. equi infection. On the
basis of c-ELISA test, overall seroprevalence of T. equi was 49.66%
and out of 75 seropositive horses only one horse was positive for T.
equi in blood smear examination during the study.
The clinical signs were seropositive horses include fever,
haemoglobinuria, lameness, fetlock swelling, mild colic, anemia and
icteric conjunctival mucous membrane. It was also noticed that few
horses suffered from colic, bronchopneumonia, constipation,
lameness, anorexia, debility and diarrhoea.
The risk factors associated with T. equi infection were presence
of tick vectors, passively transfer T. equi antibodies to healthy new
born foal, type of farming, type of housing, rearing of horses with other
animals species, tick control measures were not adoption by horses
owner and faulty management were major risk factors for endemicity of
T. equi infection in the horses population.
Haemato-biochemical studies in seropositive horses revealed
non significantly low value of haemoglobin, packed cell volume, total
erythrocyte count and non significantly high GGT, ALP and total
bilirubin when compared with apparently healthy seronegative horses.
Haemato-biochemical studies in seropositive horses revealed
significantly low value of total leucocytes count and significantly high
value of SGOT when compared to apparently healthy seronegative
horses.
