Description The study was made in Chickmagalur district with the major objective of
analyzing the business performance of Chickmagalur- Kodagu Grameena
Bank (CKGB). The data on the various performance indicators of CKGB
was collected for a period of five years (2005-06 to 2009-10) from CKGB.
In addition, data on the progress of institutional credit agencies in
Chickmagalur district was collected from Lead Bank Office,
Chickmagalur for the year 2009-10. The deposits of the institutional
credit agencies in Chickmagalur district in the year 2009-10 was
Rs. 2368 crores with commercial banks accounting for a major share
(87.92%) followed by Cooperative banks(6.61%) and CKGB (5.47%).
Commercial banks account the highest share in loan advanced to
agriculture followed by Cooperative banks and CKGB. The deposits of
CKGB grew at 24.75 per cent from Rs. 126.93 crores (2005-06) to
Rs. 300.14 crores (2009-10). The total business of CKGB increased from
Rs. 235.53 crores in 2005-06 to Rs. 512.07 crores in 2009-10, growth
being 21.39 per cent. Extensive follow up is the major suggestion given
by the officers of CKGB to improve the overall business performance of
the bank. Efforts can be made to increase the volume of the business by
adding more loan products like insurance, mutual funds, etc. Hence
there is a need to introduce core banking solutions and automated teller
machines.
