Description The present work was programmed to study the toxicopathological changes
by feeding diets containing sublethal levels of aflatoxin and ochratoxin and alleviating
effect of these mycotoxicoses by toxin binders in broiler chicken.
Feeding 50, 150 and 300 ppb aflatoxin (AF) in broiler chicken (N=72) from 0
to 42 days of age did not affect the growth, PCV and Hb. Hypoproteinaemia,
hypoalbuminaemia, hypoglobulinaemia, hypoglycaemia, increased serum ALT, AST,
ALP, GGT, BUN, creatinine and uric acid, hypocalcaemia, hypertriglyceridaemia,
hypocholesterolaemia and decreased HDL and LDL, increased VLDL and TC/HDL,
increased lipid peroxidation, decreased GSH, GPx, SOD and catalase and increased
GST were observed in AF fed groups when compared to the control. The relative
liver and spleen weights increased while bursal weight decreased in AF fed birds.
Pathological changes in liver, kidneys, crop, proventriculus, gizzard, duodenum,
bursa of Fabricius, thymus, spleen, caecal tonsils, Harderian gland and pectoral
muscle were observed even at 50 ppb AF level. Antibody titres and splenocyte
stimulation index to IB, IBD and NDV were significantly (P
