Description |
Field investigations were conducted during 1987-88, to study the influence of nutrient status of soils, ·sufficiency of _irrigations, and irrigation water quality on 'the yield .and juice quality of 00.62175, COT 8201 and 00.7219 in five villages under Chittoor co-operative sugar. factory region, Chittoor and five villages under s.v.oo~operative . sug~r factory region, Gajulamandyam. All the soils of the above' fields were ~andy clay loams to clay ·loams, moderately alkaline in soil reaction, medium in available ~ and P2o5 and high in available K2o and well above the critical limits of micronutrients viz., Fe, Mn, cU, and zn. .. The available nitrogen content o; soil was positively correlated with yield and negatively with sucrose in all the varieties 0£ both the regions. .Soil available P2o5 content was negatively· correlated with sucrose ·in COT 8201 and 00.7219 of Gajulamandyam region. Soil available R20 was positively correlated with cane. yield and negatively with sucrose in all the varieties of Ch~ttoor region_ only. . The sugarcane which received more quantity of nitrogen fertilizers and irrigations (Gajulamandyam) was high' in dry matter production, cane 'yield, sugar yield over the crop which received low amount of fertilizers and less number of irrig~tions · (Chittoor region), bu~ the juice sucrose was high in Chittoor region. In Chittqor region COT 8201 was pe·rforming well interms of dry matter .production, cane yeild, sugar_yield and nutrient uptake among ·the three varieties. Where as in Gajulamandyam region (under sufficient irrigated conditions) co.62175 variety was performing well interms of dry matter, cane yeild and nutrient uptake. But the ultimate sugar yield was high in COT 8201. ·. Of the different villages crop grown in Perumallapalli village of both regions, was having higher dry matter, cane yield, sugar yield, ove.r other villages. BUt · the juice quality was good at Potambattu in Chittoor region and Gajulamandyam village in ·Gajulamandyam region. The cane yield was positively correlated and juice sucrose negatively with leaf nitrogen and potassium concentrations in all the varieties, of both the regions at grand growth and maturity phases. The sheath .P was positively correlated with juice sucrose and negatively with cane yield'at maturity. To conclude, there were variations between two regions, and among different varieties and villages in cane yield and juice quality. Application of more amount of nitrogenous fertilizers anc giving more number of irrigations will improve the cane yield and sugar yield. The COT 8201 is ·the best variety under both the conditions to get maximum sugar .yield. · |
