Description A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, University of
Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during rabi season 2003-04 to study the influence of plant
spacing and nutrition on seed yield and quality in DHH-543 hybrid cotton seed production.
The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with factorial concept involving
three spacing and fertilizer levels (60x60, 90x60, 90x90 cm and 200:100:100, 160:80:80 and
120:60:60 kg NPK/ha, respectively) in three replications. The female parent (CPD-621) was
planted at nine different treatment combinations.
Irrespective of different fertilizer levels, wider spacing (90x90 cm) recorded
significantly low plant height (147.22 cm) at harvest, higher number of monopodial branches
(3.06), sympodial branches (26.21) per plant, boll set (35.60%), boll weight (3.58 g) per
plant, number of seeds per boll (23.96), seed index (9.38 g) and seed yield per plant (71.74
g). higher germination (84.14%), field emergence (78.50%), vigour index (2772) and B:C
ratio (2.33) were recorded in wider spacing (S3). The seed yield per ha was higher in S2
(90x60 cm) (938.89 kg).
Irrespective of different spacing levels, the higher plant height (156.56 cm) at harvest,
number of monopodia (3.18), sympodia (27.22) per plant, boll set (34.33%), boll weight
(3.19 g), number of seeds per boll (22.12), seed index (9.22 g), seed yield per plant (55.88 g),
seed yield per ha (931.68 kg), germination (84.16%), field emergence (78.79%), vigour index
(2759) and B:C ratio (2.25) were recorded in F1 (200:100:100 kg NPK/ha).
