Description |
Field experiment was conducted during kharif.1988 on red sandy loam . (chalka) soil of Students I Fann, eoriege of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, to study the nitrogen management practices in sunflower under ~ainfed conditions. The experiment with 16 treacrnents was laid out in randomised block design (RBD) and replicated thrice. The treatments comprised of nitrogen levels with split applications to soil and as foliar sprays. Plant height, f\m.ctional leaves per plant, LAI, stem girth dry matter and crop growth rate were higher due to T ( 60 kg N/ha as basal) upto 45 DAS. Split application of 30 kg N at but~oning besides 30 kg N as basal (T4) recorded higher plant height, LAI and stem girth followed by T (30 basal and 15 each at buttoning and flowering) and T (40 basal6and 20 at buttoning) at 60 DAS and harvest. Dry matter w-:J more with Tu at harvest, closely followed by T6, T 7 and T12 (two foliar sprays of DAP 2.5% besides 30 kg N as basal). Yield attributes viz., head diameter, filled seeds/head, test wei&ht, seed weight/head, protein content and oil yield were higher in T , T , T and T • Seed yield was higher in T ( 1620 kg/ha) and was o~ par6with7T,; (160~ kg/ha), T 7 (1599 kg/ha) and ~12 (1588 kg/ha). The yield increase. due to T , T , T and T over T (987 kg/ha) was 64.1,62.6,62.0 and 60.8 p~r ceRt 1 't'elpectiv~1.,. lncl·euse in seed yield ovcc T:~ ( 11.20 kg/h..t) due Lo T4, 'l'.a ..tnJ T7 w.:.l:J 633, 618 ..tnd 612 kg/h..1, respectively. Seed yield due to ·r1,; (twO foliar sprays of urea 2.0% besides 30 kg N/ha as basal) was on p~r with T12• Split application as in T (30 basal and 30 at flowering) and T (40 basal and 20 at flowe?ing) did not increase the seed yield over8r3 significantly •. Total nutrient uptake (N, P2o5 and KzO) was higher due to split application of nitrogen as in T , T and T • A significant and ~ ositive corre~ation was observed ~etwegn seed ~ield and head diamet~r. filled seeds/h~~d ru1d test weight. G~oss and net monetary returns were more due to T4 follwed by T7.T12 and T6 than the |
